Road trip to Woolacombe

We decided at the last minute to go to Woolacombe. I have family that live near there now. We used to go there all the time to stay in the family holiday cottage. We loved it and went so frequently that we even got married there. However after having children we haven't been much, mainly I think because of the long journey and small size of the cottage. But after the success of the road trip to Switzerland, this was child's play compared...

And I have officially decided that I love a good road trip with my family and think we should do it more. I love the planning of it. I love the new map tradition so the children can track our progress (it really stops the whole are we nearly there yet nightmare) and making the 'fun bags' complete with colouring book, a snack and a Looney Toones/Tom and Jerry DVD for the near end of the journey...
And there are ways to occupy yourself when the fun bags are empty...

I love taking pictures along the way of the scenery...
I mean I literally sit with my phone and my camera on my lap the whole way looking. Always looking for the next beautiful shot. It makes me happy and in this way I feel like I'm taking you guys with me. Which lets be honest would be a a bit of a squeeze in our car in actuality.

I love watching the different weather roll in and out...

While clearly playing with my camera settings...
I love cloud watching...

I love seeing different sights. Especially after the cabin fever of the last couple of months...

I love watching the sun go down knowing we are tantalizingly close to our destination...
I love watching the world fly by...
And I really love the feeling of elation when you finally reach your desired destination...

This trip has fueled my love of all these things. And to think we nearly didn't go. What a mistake that would have been!

More to come...

Sitting in the sun...

Before we went on our trip this half term we went to visit Tim's parents. Sunday was the first day in a long time that the sun came out a little and it didn't rain. I always enjoy walking around their garden. Even it seems in winter.

Sitting outside with the sun's rays falling upon my face, it felt like heaven...

I don't know how your winter is going but feel free to sit with me a while...

I don't know about you but I needed that...

Valentines

Our valentines in pictures with words...

The card I painted for Tim inspired by this

One of Isaacs card for his girlfriends! Yes there is more than one *rolls eyes*

We enjoyed our valentines despite the storms but I have no time to tell you about it all because we are packing for much needed trip. We had planned it and then cancelled it due to the weather which depressed me no end...

But then the reports ease a little and yesterday we impulsively decided to still go...

Even though most of England is flooded and storm damaged...

Because a change is as good as a rest...

And because I NEED some different scenery!!!!

And possibly a really big boat...

See you in a week or so!

Waving the white flag...

By my last count...

So far this year...

Between the four of us...

We have a total of:

1 bout of tonsillitis
8 viruses (obviously this is per person, it's super fun when everyone is sick at the same time)
1 bout of flu
1 case of conjunctivitis
1 sprained ankle (hubby)
1 migraine that lasted 4 days

I'm waving the white flag to you germs, you won, great job and all that...

but...

could you just give us a minute???

As you can imagine I've been kind of down. In fact with the added delight of constant rain I was pretty much flat on the floor.

But as always happens little by little you start to feel better and you see little things around you...

that make you feel happier...

Little things like...

Any break in the rain, we've been missing blue skies...

Rain drops that always look like diamonds on this tree...
A lone flower in my bare winter garden...
The moon shining in the afternoon sky...

There isn't many yet but i'm searching hard.

Plus to give the universe a little nudge I decided that we would just go away at half term. Like we did this time last year when things were tough. It was like a reset button.

And I for one can't wait.
