A Good Friday walk...

We have mostly all recovered from our various illness (except for Hubby who didn't get ill due to what I can only assume is super human antibodies. I say this because time and time again we are all sick except for him. It's downright weird. And annoying.)

So when a tiny amount of sun showed it's face recently we went to a favourite spot for a walk. It was the perfect way to spend Good Friday...

Still no signs of Spring here...
But still pretty nonetheless.
As usual we set out exploring...

There were little treasures everywhere...
And you know me and trees...
Walking among them, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, I feel that all is right with the world...
Yep, I a tree hugger for sure. Sometimes I do actually hug them. You know? Just to earn the title...
Even in the winter they have such beauty...
And close up they are awesome!
We have our favourite climbing tree too...

And this time we had to play a game of hide and seek among the trees who were very much obliging.

Although the boys seem to prefer a funny version of the game where you hide in a really conspicuous space. The person seeking can clearly see where you are hiding but they jokingly claim they can't see you ANYWHERE!!...

It goes on for what feels like hours...

But at least no one is whining...
Seriously no stealth needed here!
It never gets old...

Eventually we were cold and it was time to go home...

'Sure I'm coming Mummy'...
'Wait what's that I see in the distance...'
'Yes, yes it is!

Forget you Mummy...

THERE'S AN ICECREAM VAN!!!!

Surely we didn't?

Hells yeah we did...

All in all and awesome walk!
Oh and one more thing...

Easter bonnet for boys

I wasn't going to post today but was way too excited to show you this...

We had to make an Easter Bonnet for School and I had instructions for nothing girly! Not, as I reminded him, that there is anything wrong with girls because Mummy is a girl and Mummy rocks. He's too young to be rolling his eyes right?

Don't worry I let him help...

A little bit...

No Mummy you can't eat it!

I enjoyed it way too much...

I spent way too long on it...

Can you tell I wish I had gone to art school?

*sigh*

Great Expectations

So it has snowed for about three days straight here which is just crazy. This time last year it was all rainbows and sun beams...

Not this year, not right now...

Any Spring that may have sprung has been halted in it's progress...

BTW the following is what happens when I let the boys (I'm including hubby in this) make a snowman without my direct supervision. Is that not the scariest thing you ever did see?
I call him weirdo, he responds only to that name now...

Where was I?

Oh yes Spring not springing...

The only Spring going on around here is the plants that I excitedly and prematurely bought to put in my new front garden (which of course has not been dug yet). They are on my kitchen window sill, springing away like they have no idea...

Bless them...

Anyway I had an epiphany about all this. Some of you who have followed my blog for a while will know that in the winter I go absolutely crazy for snow. Like a child who never grew up I get overly excited when the those pretty flakes start to fall.

This weekend Tim wasn't playing Rugby, we had the whole weekend at home. The snow was deep enough for the usual snowy activities. If this was November I'd be making the hot chocolate and getting out the sledge. I'd be singing from the rooftop about my love for snow. Yet all I have done is moan about the weather.

The only difference between the flakes now and the flakes then is the expectation behind it. I expect it to snow in the winter and it seems magical when it does. Right now I expect it to be Spring and I am looking forward to all that  it brings so I am irritated at those beautiful defiant fat flakes falling to the ground.

The ONLY difference is my expectation.

I am making myself unhappy not the snow.

This is seriously an aha! moment people...

I wonder how many life situations there are in which that is the case? Where it is actually the expectation not the situation that is making me unhappy.

I feel like I need to make a formal apology to the snow...

So I resolved to embrace my old friend the snow like I normally do and enjoy everything it brings.

The moment I embraced the 'expectation' of a great Snow day it all went wrong again. Damn it Expectations! I can't help but feel I'm being tested...

Here's why...
Isaac has an ear infection. Poor boy he's so poorly...

Lucas not to be left out has an eye infection...
Although as you can see medicine is working quickly.

And me? Also not to be left out suddenly I have a throat infection. Grrr.

No need for a picture of me here I don't want to scare you. But I will show you my drink of choice when I have a cold...
It consists of

My brother always adds Whiskey but I don't have any. Plus I need to look after two little people not get intoxicated. I'm not sure of the health benefits of adding Whiskey but it always makes me feel less bad about being ill. You know? There's that lovely warm feeling that begins in your throat...

Anyway I digress...

Forget embracing a Snow day (sorry Snow), it's sick day now. And I'm not giving up that easily after my epiphany so we are going with it...

I made a healthy smoothie I found on Pinterest to entice a certain little man with a
high temperature and no appetite to eat something (as well drinking lots of water).
I'm going to post my version of the recipe soon as it was sooo good...

It certainly did the trick for both of them...
Check out the new play area I made where our too big place where I dumped stuff dining table used to be. It needs refurbishing anyway and the boys are loving this space just for them.

Also I caught Lucas comforting his big brother without any prompting...

Oh hello heart melted all over the floor...

We ate healthy yummy mushroom soup...

And we watched some absolute classics...
Because isn't that the only good thing about being sick? Watching movies all day long...

And just to keep my old friend Snow happy I made sure we had a hot chocolate...

Happy Snow/Sick day everybody. May you enjoy all that it brings...

Or something like that...
