Half Term part 1

We have been busy this half term so I'll show it in parts. The first weekend we spent staying with family. Now when we stay at Tim's parents it involves eating loads (and I mean loads) of good food until we cannot move. Every meal is Christmas meal in their house size wise and I love it. But so does my tummy unfortunately which doubled in size over the weekend. Good thing we got in a quick work out at the local playground...
A playing work out...
Lucas was soon shoved of this by a certain playground bully...

Things to explore...

And climb...
Speaking of which. I'm not very good at playgrounds. Seems like every step my little ones take I imagine them falling and breaking their bones. I'm too cautious, too overprotective. I stand in the way of letting them push their own boundaries. Often when I'm sure they are not ready for something they go ahead and do it easily. And since I don't want them to learn my fear I usually let daddy take over, he's not worried at all. In fact it's usually best if I can't see what they are up to most of the time. Boys will be boys and all that.
However this time I noticed Isaac was a little scared, not trying like he used to and saying 'no mummy hold me' while he climbed. Uh oh. So he had picked up on it. This time I swallowed my fear, told him I was there but he didn't need me to hold him. He got up there so he can get down again. *Gulp* And he did. Oh man he was so pleased with himself. In fact the next time when daddy tried to hold him he said 'no I can do it myself!' Hmm lesson learned mummy.

So here is mummy letting go and Isaac learning what he is capable off...

In the spirit of this we spied an empty skateboard park. I really got into the letting go thing, for myself too. To be less afraid, to play like a child, play...

Wait?! sliding on you bum is for babies...

Now jumping from the top is hardcore...(can you see the little trace of fear in my face?)
 But I got into it...
Obviously the boys didn't actually jump from the top by themselves. Well one boy did...
He got some height! Which made me all competitive. From then on if there was something to jump from, I was there... (regardless of how ridiculous I looked)

Nailed it! (I seriously landed like that)

We were all at it...
Try, fall down, learn.
Try again.

  2. Looks like a fun trip to the playground. And I know how you feel about being over cautious. I feel exactly the same when my little girl is trying new things at the playgroud. She seems so little on the big equipment, I just want to hold her hand all the time. I know she's perfectly capable really and will ask if she's scared or needs help with something.

  3. It is so scary letting Bubs climb on the playground, but I force myself to do it.
You are such a rad mom and when I saw those pics I could hear Kris Kross singing Jump, Jump, Jump!

Yeah my nathan fell off top of a slide once... my heart flipped.. but you know what, after some tears he went right back up again. Kids are tough but ur right to be concerned about your ickle babies. :-)
    Lovely day out indeed!

  5. I think sometimes the most amazing thing about being a parent is relearning -- or in a case like mine, getting the chance to learn -- how to let go and play. And learn to take baby steps at risks.

Well ... that's my needs met, anyway.

Looks like you guys had a tonne of fun! And I'm pretty impressed with how you landed those jumps and how high you got!
