Sunday pancakes + Movie night = Day of awesomeness!

Last Sunday was a good day. I knew it would be for the reasons in the title. I took a 'few' photos so come on! Spend the day with us...
Starting with homemade blueberry pancakes. Thank you hubby...
With lots of Tea obviously...
Then to work off our pancake laden bellies a walk in the woods was required...
(some of these photos aren't great, the light was fading fast )
There was some serious tree climbing. (not from me I'm a scaredy cat)
We went searching for fairies and pixies but they weren't out today...
This mushroom was so pulling a Marilyn Monroe...
We almost got attacked by a dog before these next photos. When I say attacked it was more snarling, loud barking and weird crazy eyes. The owner felt so bad she gave the boys jelly beans. Note the word 'them'. Hey lady where's my Jelly beans the crazy dog freaked me out too!
Then back to ours for Movie night activities. Did I mention I already put the tree up. Apparently its way too early but hey...
Guess what movie I talked them into they chose!
How to Train your Dragon.
Check out my new glasses...
I know I'm mostly all about pixar but damn this movie is good. Great job Dreamworks. Movie night score 10/10!

Then before bed the boys pretended they were flying dragons and jumped off the sofas over and over. Obviously we reminded them that is not okay!
So off they went to bed...
So I could give it ago. Whoa it is well fun! And yes that is me touching the ceiling. Sweeet!
Even after all that food there is more for the adults to enjoy.
Camembert cheese...
And trusty ol' red...
We watched Bridesmaids. OMG this film is 'wet your pants' funny. Not that I did that (much). I laughed all the way through.

Best scene ever!
Sookie from Gilmore girls what are you doing?! Melissa McCarthy was seriously good.
And if this isn't a situation I would find myself in I don't know what is?...
Again Movie night score 10/10 Gross out laughs, heart warming bits, amazing cast. Can't fault it.

Great day, thanks for coming along x

It just happened one day...

Recently we had the preschool photo shoot. They kindly offered to photograph little brother too. It didn't go well. It's not like they aren't used to a photo or two being taken of them. But instead of sitting and smiling at the camera. They opted for refusing to sit and nearly trashing the photographers equipment. Lucas finished it all off by having the biggest tantrum any child in the world has ever had. All the while, the other mums who were waiting their turn, eyed me with judgement. I walked home red faced with a screaming Lucas in tow. How embarrassing.

However the other day something happened all on its own. Lucas was ill and they were watching TV. I came in the room to find them cuddling on the sofa. I had to capture it. This kind of affection rarely happens without prompting.

I swear there was no set up. No sit here, hold still, hug each other while I take a photo, pretend you love each other goddamn it!!!
No wrestling, or pushing or anything...

It happened all on its own...
Heart melted all over the floor and I'm not cleaning it up.

Way better than a forced photo shoot any day of the week.

Being in the moment

Argh lately things have been hectic.

As you know both boys have had chicken pox, and Lucas got it bad. Then it became ear ache and so of course we said hello to numerous and epic tantrums throughout the day. I've found it hard to juggle everything with a little boy that wants nothing more than to be held all day long. I've had to let things go, particularly housework. Even without sick kids I find it hard to get everything thing done. So with all this time sitting around holding and soothing Mr tantrum I got to thinking about mindfulness. Awareness of myself and what I'm doing. Whatever I'm doing, just being completely present in that moment. Including as I've had to do the last 2 weeks, letting unimportant things go and focusing completely on the boys.

So often I try to multitask (poorly I might add) so I'm only half focused on them at times. Kid on my hip while I check emails/answer phone calls. Saying over and over 'hang on, in minute...' while I quickly clean something. I'm often half focused on everything I do which I'm sure doubles how long it takes me to actually do it. Maybe it's about stopping trying to control/juggle/everything. Accept it as it is. Observe it like you would observe changes in the weather. Do what you can with complete focus while ditching guilt about what you can't do. This of course is not always possible. But sometimes it is. And it's amazing what you notice when you stop and focus...
So much there waiting to be seen...
So much to drink in...
Little moments that get to happen because you are there completely...
Taking the time to play like you did as a kid...
To watch them try something...
Because all this will go so fast...
Seems to me that a lot (not all) of these tantrums go when I stop everything
and just pay attention to this little one...
And this one is a bit happier and better behaved
when I stop saying 'hang on...' and just join in...

Do what is important, screw the rest, it can wait...

Belated blog birthday

4th of Nov was my blog birthday!

I can't believe I missed it! Actually I can. I never remember when our wedding anniversary is or anyone's birthday for that matter. This is SO me. Still I've been blogging for a whole year and I'm addicted. I love it. I love writing, I love taking photos instead of enjoying stuff because I know you guys will dig it, I love documenting my boys growing up, getting comments, checking my blog stats an embarrassing amount. I freaking love it. My name is Sian and I'm a blogaholic *bows*

My favourite bits...

Did your eyeballs just fall out from photo overload? Sorry about that, I mean't to warn you...

What a year though, Good times.

Anyway to celebrate my blog birthday I thought I'd tell you about some of my favourite blogs...

In no particular order:

Adriana
J'adore Adriana! Apart from being all around lovely and friendly she takes the most beautiful photos. She and her family are way too attractive btw, she finds the beauty in everyday things and her words fly off the page like poetry.

Jennie Louise
Photobucket
Ah Jennie! My lovely twitter friend who makes me smile daily. She is another lovely mummy who takes seriously fabulous photos.

Heidi Darwish
                                           Kaleidoscope
I can't tell you how much I love Heidi's blog. She lives in Florida (which I enjoy enviously through her photos) with her expanding family. She is the kind of chick you'd like to live next door too. (Actually I wish I lived next door to all the bloggers I'm talking about)

LucidLotusLife
This chick is so awesome! She cracks me up, she's real, she honest and did I mention awesome? I crown thee awesome chick! I Heart her ;)

Mallory
A new favourite and I'm already addicted to her blog. She takes the most beautiful photos of her life in New Jersey.

Tonya
Where Have all the Hobos Gone?
Another new favourite. This girl is seriously funny. Like split your sides funny with cartoon pictures to really bring the funny home. Another girl I want to hang out with. We would have way too much fun.

Laura
Laura is another twitter friend who is kind of the reason I started blogging. I enjoyed reading her blog and following the progress of her little boy Cameron (seriously cute people!). She has a brand new blog yay!

It's not all girls you know...

His is a photo blog that I can't get enough of. He's a great guy, takes the time to comment even when I've been slack and his photos are complete eye porn!

Last but not least...
Tamar
Aw this lovely lady is studying to be a teacher, she leaves the nicest comments and I love her photos!

Anyway it's been a great blogging year. It has given me so much happiness and confidence in my own photos.
